The Aussie Spirit and Aussie Legends teams were up early for a swim at the Runaway Bay Super Centre before McCutcheon broke camp to "have some fun" with his opposition.

The players took to the Kamikaze and Super 8 Aqua Racer with the competition just as fierce on the water as it will be when they take to the field tomorrow.

The real action begins at 9am tomorrow morning when the 16 men's and five women's teams start their pool games at Albert Park - the home of Gold Coast Rugby at Surfers Paradise.

And not even the forecasted inclement weather will dampen the enthusiasm of an event that has certainly captured the imagination of South East Queensland.

"Rugby 7's is such a fun sport and we have to make the most of every opportunity to promote the sport and it's things like pat mccutcheon & ben gollings at wet n wild photo hmg.jpgthis that make it," said McCutcheon.

"I've been lucky enough to tour the world, to places like Dubai, the US, Hong Kong, the UK and Italy playing rugby and I can't think of a better life.

"Playing on the Gold Coast is fantastic and the boys can't wait to play."

Coach of the Samoan Virgin Blue Islanders, Etu Tusitala, said his team was determined to put on a real show.

"We are looking forward to it and we are looking forward to putting on a show for the people of the Gold Coast - Rugby 7's is such an exciting game and the Samoans and the Fijians will come together to turn it on," said Tusitala.

The Aussie Spirit, with coach Michael O'Connor at the helm top the teams in Pool C with the top Fijian outfit South Sea Drifters the pick in pool A, the Samoan Virgin Blue Islanders in Pool B and the Queensland Barbarians in Pool D.

The action starts at 9am on Saturday and continues all day with the semi-finals to kick off at 9am on Sunday and the finals from 3pm.

Local fans will have the opportunity to travel to Albert Park on the special shuttle buses leaving every 30 minutes from 9am from Conrad Jupiters Casino and the Gold Coast City Council (Bundall Rd, Bundall).
