TriathlonAust-Logo Triathlon Australia: June 8, 2017: Today Triathlon Australia honours one of its true pioneers following the sudden passing yesterday of popular race director Nick Munting – a man who dedicated his life to triathlon.

Triathlon Australia’s CEO, Olympian and former ITU World Champion Miles Stewart spoke on behalf of the triathlon community when he paid this tribute to Nick Munting.

“On behalf of Triathlon Australia and the entire triathlon family we extend our deepest sympathies to Nick’s wife Alison, their two daughters Ashlee and Lauren and their extended families,” Stewart said.

“Nick was like a father, brother, confidant and mate to so many of us in triathlon and like everyone in our sport we are deeply saddened with his passing.

“His dedication to our sport has been like the fourth leg of a triathlon – he wouldn’t stop until he reached the finish.

“At so many events he was the first man on deck and so often the last man to leave – and always with that cheeky smile on his face.

“Nick’s long hours and selfless dedication to our sport and particularly our athletes will live long in our memories and he remain forever in our hearts.”

Munting was a one-stop triathlon shop – from commentator and journalist to marketing manager and race director.

His start in triathlon came through his marketing role with Daihatsu and helped engineer the Daihatsu Series, an early National race series in Australia.

Subsequently he became involved in the Ampol Series; adding commentating and communications for Ironman and in the origins of Ironman Live.

He made the Canberra and Yeppoon Half distance triathlons his own and more recently the Weetbix Kids National Series.

Nick was the Race Director for the 2006 Canberra ITU Long Distance World Championships and was also Executive Director at Tri NSW for a number of years as well as organising the Kurnell Race Series during that time.

He also created the Singapore Half Ironman, Canberra and Yeppoon Half distance triathlons and then Nick hosted the 2006 Canberra ITU Long Distance World Championships on this course.

Nick was the current Managing Director of X-Tri Australia and long standing Race Director of the company responsible for the ideation, development, organisation and implementation of quality world class multi-sport and community engagement events.

An event company specialising in Community Engagement events for not for profit organisations and companies and charities as well as his role as event director of Little Big Dash, a start up community engagement.
