John Newcombe, one of the legends of Australian tennis, was born on this day, May 23, 1944 in Sydney. "Newk" would go on to win 7 majors including three Wimbledon crowns in 1967, 1970 and 1971;the US Open in 1967 and 1973 and the Australian Open in 1973 and 1975.
