The great Sir Matt Busby, the football manager who created Manchester United's "Busby Babes" and who survived the Munich air tragedy in 1958, which killed seven players and three officials, was born on this day in 1909. He went on to take United to League and FA Cup glory in a span that lasted 24 years. He died in 1994, aged 85.
